Life with an American Curl

Curls are playful and people-loving and stay kitten-like into adulthood. They are curious and adaptable and get along with kids and other pets.

Great for
  • Families with kids
  • Multi-pet homes
  • People who want a friendly, playful cat
Think twice if
  • Someone at home tends to grab ears — the cartilage is delicate
Care tips
  • Handle ears gently and never force them flat.
  • Check and clean the ears weekly — the curl can trap wax.
  • Brush weekly (twice a week for longhairs).

Health

Generally healthy. Ear irritation and wax buildup are the main issues. Unlike the Scottish Fold gene, the curl gene isn’t linked to joint disease.

Prices are rough ranges from registered breeders and vary by line, color and region. A much cheaper “purebred” kitten is a common scam sign.
