Life with a Toyger

They are sociable and trainable and enjoy fetch and leash walks, but they are calmer than Bengals. Most get along with kids and other pets.

Great for
  • Families with kids
  • Multi-pet homes
  • People who want an exotic look with an easygoing nature
Think twice if
  • You need a kitten soon — the breed is rare, with waiting lists
  • You’re away all day and there’s no other pet
Care tips
  • Weekly brushing.
  • Daily play.
  • Indoor life.

Health

A young, small breed and generally healthy; some heart murmurs have been reported. Because of Bengal ancestry, Bengal DNA tests are worth asking about.

Ask the breeder for
  • Heart scan (echocardiogram) of the parents
  • PK-def DNA test
  • PRA-b DNA test
Typical US price$1,500–$3,000
RegistriesTICATICA only — ask for papers

Prices are rough ranges from registered breeders and vary by line, color and region. A much cheaper “purebred” kitten is a common scam sign.
